Pros and Cons of booking an all-inclusive photo and video package for your wedding

April 19, 2024

Wondering if it’s worth booking a photo and video team vs booking separately? Well the short answer is: YES IT IS!!!

The long answer goes more like this : it’s going to usually be worth it unless there are some specific scenarios in which case it might be more beneficial to book your photographer and videographer separately… but first lets talk about the benefits of booking an all-inclusive photo and video team for your wedding day!

THE PROS

Simplifies the booking process

You don’t hear the phrase “wedding planning is easy” that often… but it can be made easier! Often hiring a wedding planner can be one of the best ways to take away some of the burden of planning, but not everybody can do that or wants to hire one out. By booking in an all-inclusive photo and video team, you will save time upfront by only needing one consolation call, only needing to communicate with one vendor vs two. It also gets often overlooked that there is also lots of communication leading up to the day and a separate videographer/photographer may work differently leading to more complex communication and coordination.

Saves money

It’s no doubt that Weddings can be expensive, especially with good photographers and videographers! The perk of booking a team is that they will usually have a cheaper combined rate than hiring two separate vendors, this usually doesn’t actually have to do with a lack of quality or experience but rather the time savings created by having a photographer and videographer working together for the same company. Like we said earlier we only need one consolation call, one line of communication, it’s just a bit more streamlined!

More cohesive working together

When you have a photographer and videographer working for the same company, you have two people that first off – have worked together before as well as having a system in place, secondly – they both have each others best interests at hand! Usually most photographers and videographers have much respect for each other, but at least if they are working together it’s more so guaranteed that they wont be getting in each others way and such!

Same type of style

This one isn’t nearly important to some people as others, but it is really nice when your photos and film match in colour! Also you’ll usually get your photos and video delivered at the same time which is always a nice touch!

A note on different types of teams

One thing to consider is the type of team you are looking to hire! The cheapest usually works for a big company that has many photographers + videographers, theres nothing wrong with this, but the artistic quality may be less, and over all the film and photos may feel more generic! Also a lot of these photographers/videographers don’t edit their own work either, it just gets hired out which furthermore can take away from the quality of workmanship, especially in the film where it might be hard to “bring out” the personality of the couple within the video.

A husband and wife team is another option (Eyyyy that’s us!) Without being biased, these teams tend to be the most personal/relatable as they have been married themselves, work quite closely together, and will have a bit more a cohesive style but with the added benefit of being more artistic and their style more dialed in! It might cost a little more than the previous option, but hey we say it’s well worth it!

The last team would be a separate photographer and videographer making some sort of package deal, which tends to be less common but may be a good option if you feel that their style speaks to you!

THE CONS

There aren’t many, but there are definitely a few notable ones that come into play in specific instances!

In the event that….

In the event that something happens, such as the company you hired fell apart, or were not good to work with, or took forever to deliver is where we would say it could be beneficial in hiring separate vendors. By hiring separately you midegate the risk of having everything lie in the hands of one company, vs separate ones. This also means if one of the vendors goes out of business that you only have to find a replacement for one! On the flip side of the coin, teams and companies generally have more peoples interests at stake, especially if its a well established team that is on the more pricey side.

You are obsessed with a certain vendors style

This is forsure a good reason NOT go with a team. It’s when you have a dream photographer or videographer, and that in itself outweighs all the other benefits of having a team because you just loveeee their style! We definitely highly encourage that you only hire a photographer/videographer, team or not if you LOVEEEE their style! We know money does play a role, but this is also the biggest day of your life, and is it not worth the extra thousand or so to insure that your day is captured to the fullest?

You are only looking for a photographer

As much we would love to convince everyone of the importance of having a wedding film, we also understand that sometimes it’s just not financially feasible! This is when you have to try and weigh out whether to have a really high end photographer, or hiring a cheaper team from a bigger company. It’s definitely a hard choice there, and we usually would recommend narrowing it down to your priorities, do you want high quality photos and no video, or medium quality photos and videos. Obviously some people do not care to have a video which is perfectly alright! ( although the #1 regret we hear from brides is not getting a video)

In conclusion

At the end of the day the most important factor should be how you get along with your vendors, and how much you love their style! So lay the pros and cons out for yourself and see what works best for you!!!
